Basic Instructions for Burning your Wooden Wick Candle

The basics of lighting and enjoying your wooden wick candle are simple, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

Wooden wicks crackle when they burn similar to the sound of logs on a fire.  Wooden wicks don't "mushroom" or "bloom," meaning they don't create an ugly black ball on the top of the wick that lingers and smokes after burning for a while.  You'll notice that the wooden wicks in the 12 oz. candles are cut on a slight angle; light your wooden wick from the low end of the wick (in 12 oz. jars only).  When you first light your wooden wick, the flame may go out a few times before it catches and connects with the wax.  Be patient.  The very first time that you  light your candle, you should avoid extinguishing your candle for at least an hour and/or until the wax pool reaches the outer edge of the candle.  Doing this will ensure a good, clean burn from then afterwards.

Wooden wicks burn much cleaner, and while they don't get the carbon build up that needs to be trimmed off like cotton wicks, they will develop a slight amount of ash at the top of the wick after each burn.  Simply remove the ash by gently pinching it with your index and thumb fingers when cool before relighting.  Sometimes, if there is too much ash build-up, you will notice the flame getting smaller, but once you remove it, the flame comes right back to life.  Also, if your flame burns too high, you may want to cut the wood down with a pair of candle scissors.  Be careful not to leave any debris in your candle and follow all of the standard candle-burning safety guidelsines.
